Curtis is a most extraordinary person, the most under rated
explosive singer guitarist writer and actor.
Curtis was born March 17, 1930 on a plantation in Poole, Louisiana, 35
miles east of Shreveport. He started singing "The Blues" while
still a small boy. He was an only child raised by his mother, father and
maternal grandparents, one of his grandmothers sold bootleg whiskey and
wine and as a young boy he was greatly influenced and fascinated by the
blues singers and guitar players. When they came to buy his grandmothers
liquor many times they would sing and play.
As the years went by Curtis was moved to another farm north of Shreveport,
where he continued to work the fields and be fascinated by the Blues. A
few years later Curtis left Louisiana went to a place near Lufkin, Texas
and lived as a cowboy. But the desire to be an entertainer was so strong
he decided to move to Los Angeles and pursue his dream. He soon realized
all glitter wasn't gold. He enlisted in the army. Upon his discharge he
returned to Los Angeles where he entered drama school and added a few bit
parts to his resume. Curtis would never quit, he got into boxing and
became a heavy weight fighter and later started a meat packing business.
From the time of his discharge from the army in 1953 he did other things
to survive Curtis never gave up his guitar.
The set back gave Curtis a stronger desire to push ahead. So with guitar
in his hand he carved out a career that includes recording six singles,
two group albums and a group CD.
When asked about his struggle he replied in all things some are successful
and some are not. When asked what is the Blues? Curtis replied - "MY
LIFE."
